Shopify is significantly better for ecommerce-first businesses — deeper inventory, multi-channel selling, 8,000+ app ecosystem, native B2B, subscriptions, Hydrogen headless, Shopify Markets for international. Squarespace is better for content-first brands (blog, portfolio, restaurant, photographer) where commerce is a secondary need. Rule of thumb: if commerce is more than 30 percent of your business, choose Shopify. If commerce is supplementary to content, Squarespace works.

URL redirect mapping is the most critical step for SEO preservation — we map every Squarespace URL to its Shopify equivalent with 301 redirects. Migration cost depends on catalog size, redirect count, and custom Squarespace features used.
Squarespace SEO is often described as cleaner out-of-the-box (built-in image optimization, automatic AMP pages, simple URL structure) but Shopify SEO is more controllable and scales better. Shopify gives access to robots.txt, sitemap.xml, custom hreflang, GA4 server-side tagging, Meta CAPI, schema markup for products. For ecommerce SEO at scale, Shopify wins. For brochure + light commerce, Squarespace is fine.
