Why Shopify Markets

One Store. Many Currencies, Languages, Customers.

Going international used to mean a separate Shopify store per country — separate admin, separate inventory, separate ops, separate maintenance burden. Shopify Markets collapses all of that into one store with market-specific experiences: a customer in UAE sees AED prices and duty-included checkout; a customer in the US sees USD and Shop Pay; a customer in Germany sees EUR and Klarna. Inventory is shared, admin is shared, the only thing that differs is what each customer experiences. The single biggest unlock for Indian D2C brands going global — especially for high-AOV niches like fragrance, jewelry, and specialty coffee.

💵

Local Currency = More Sales

Customers convert 30-55 percent better when prices show in their currency vs forced USD. Multi-currency is non-negotiable for cross-border.

🏩

Local Payment = Less Friction

UAE customers want Tabby. Germans want Klarna. Brits want Shop Pay. Local payment availability lifts CR 18-32 percent per market.

🚚

Duties Transparency Wins

"Surprise" duty-on-delivery causes 25-40 percent refusals. DDP at checkout (Markets Pro or Zonos) eliminates this entirely.

🌐

One Catalog. One Admin.

Inventory shared across markets. Update once, ships everywhere. The operational simplicity is the entire pitch.

Markets fit check

Should you expand internationally now?

Already getting international traffic — 5%+ of sessions from outside India. Demand is proven; capture it.
AOV above INR 2,500 — cross-border shipping costs eat low-AOV margin. High-ticket brands work best abroad.
Diaspora-friendly category — Indian wear, jewelry, food, beauty, wellness. NRI buyers + brand storytelling = export tailwind.
India ops are stableRazorpay, Shiprocket, WhatsApp all working. Don't add international until domestic is humming.
×
Inventory too thin — if local stockouts are common, splitting allocation across markets makes both worse.
×
No customer support for new TZs — international customers expect response in their time zone. Plan support before launch.

FAQ

Common Questions From Expanding Brands

Don't see your question? Drop us a note →

Shopify Markets is the native multi-region toolkit that lets you sell to multiple countries from one Shopify store — one product catalog, one admin, multiple currencies, languages, and local pricing. Available on all plans. Markets Pro is the premium tier (Shopify Plus, US-merchants only at launch) where Shopify becomes your merchant of record (MoR) — they handle global tax registration, duties calculation, fraud protection, payouts in your home currency. Markets handles the storefront; Markets Pro handles the back-office of cross-border commerce. For most Indian brands expanding to 2-4 international markets, regular Markets + local payment processors + Shiprocket Cross-border is the right starting stack.
Shopify Markets handles multi-currency three ways: (1) Auto-conversion — your prices in INR auto-convert to USD / GBP / AED etc. based on live exchange rates, with optional round-up rules (e.g. always end in 9), (2) Manual price lists per market — you set USD 49 instead of auto-converted USD 51.20, useful for psychological pricing, (3) Mixed — some markets auto-converted, others price-listed. Customer sees their local currency in their local format throughout the store. Razorpay processes INR; for international currencies you'll integrate Stripe, PayPal, or local processors per region. Markets Pro on Plus handles all this in one payout to your home currency.
No — this is the entire point of Shopify Markets. One store, one product catalog, one admin, but multiple market-specific experiences. Customer in UAE sees AED prices, Arabic translations (if configured), Markets Pro duties at checkout, local payment methods like Tabby / Tamara if integrated. Customer in US sees USD, English, Stripe / Shop Pay, and US-specific compliance. Inventory is shared. Reporting splits by market. Maintenance is single-store. Multi-store setups (separate Shopify accounts per country) only make sense for brands with completely separate teams, brand identities, or product catalogs per region — extreme cases. If you need pixel-perfect custom UI per market, consider Hydrogen headless.
Three operating models: (1) DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — you collect duties + taxes at checkout, customer pays nothing on delivery. We display duty estimates at checkout via Markets or Zonos. Best customer experience but requires you to handle the tax burden. (2) DDU / DAP (Delivered Duty Unpaid / Delivered at Place) — customer pays duties on delivery via the courier. Cheaper for you but creates buyer-side friction and refusals. (3) Markets Pro (Plus + US) — Shopify becomes merchant of record, handles everything. For Indian D2C brands shipping under USD 10K monthly cross-border, Shiprocket Cross-border (with DHL Express / FedEx) + DDU is the practical start. Move to DDP once volume justifies the operational burden.
Standard Markets setup is 5 weeks for an Indian D2C brand expanding to 3-5 international markets. Scope: market configuration (US / UK / UAE / EU / SG / AU), multi-currency pricing strategy (auto-convert vs price lists), Shopify Translate & Adapt for translations, local country domains (.com / .co.uk / .ae), local payment methods per market (Stripe, Shop Pay, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, Tabby etc.), local shipping carriers (DHL Express, FedEx, Shiprocket Cross-border), duties calculation (DDP via Markets or Zonos, or DDU), geo-IP detection + market redirect prompt, hreflang SEO tags + localized sitemaps, per-market GA4 analytics. Complex builds with Markets Pro (Plus only), custom checkout per market, or B2B internationalization extend to 7-9 weeks. Engage our Shopify dev team in Bangalore to scope it.
