What we migrate

Short answer: Almost everything in your catalog and customer base moves, but each data type moves in its own way. Orders need a migration app, and some items need a plan rather than a copy.

DataHow it movesWhat to know
Products and variantsWooCommerce export, mapped to Shopify's product template and imported by CSV. Shopify's Store Migration app is an option for stores that have access to it.Products with more than 3 options need a workaround, such as metafields or an app. A product missing a variant option fails to import. Image links must be public https URLs, so the old site stays live until images are fetched.
Categories and tagsRebuilt as Shopify collections, manual or automated.Shopify's structure differs from WooCommerce categories, so we map the hierarchy to collections and navigation.
CustomersCSV import, with columns renamed to match Shopify's customer template.Passwords cannot be migrated. After import, customers are invited to set a new password.
OrdersMigration apps such as Matrixify, LitExtension or Ablestar, because Shopify's own import does not cover orders.Usually historical, already fulfilled orders. We turn off staff order emails before the import so your team is not flooded.
Pages and blog postsImported with an app or the API where possible, and rebuilt in the theme where layouts are complex.Elementor or Divi layouts are rebuilt with Shopify sections rather than copied.
SEO titles and descriptionsMoved from Yoast or Rank Math into Shopify's SEO fields.Shopify's CSV allows SEO titles up to 70 characters and descriptions up to 320, so long ones are checked.
ReviewsPlanned with the review app you choose.Shopify's guide says reviews cannot be exported or migrated from WooCommerce directly, so decide this before launch.
Subscriptions and membershipsScoped separately. These depend on plugins that have no one-to-one Shopify equivalent, so they are assessed in the audit.
Old URLsMapped to new Shopify URLs and loaded as 301 redirects.Covered in the SEO section below.

Based on Shopify's guide to migrating from WooCommerce, its customer import page and its product CSV page, checked 13 October 2026. Shopify updates these guides, so we confirm the current steps at the start of each project.

What cannot move directly

Short answer: Customer passwords and WooCommerce reviews cannot be migrated directly, and products with more than 3 options need a workaround. We plan each one before launch.

  • Customer passwords: Shopify's help center says passwords cannot be migrated from another store by CSV. Imported customers are invited to create a new password, so tell them in advance
  • Reviews: Shopify's WooCommerce guide says reviews cannot be exported or migrated directly. Choose your review app early and ask the app maker how it handles imports
  • Products with more than 3 options: Shopify's guide says options beyond 3 are not imported. We use metafields or an app, depending on the product
  • Plugin features: anything a WooCommerce plugin did, such as memberships, subscriptions or custom checkout rules, needs a Shopify app or a custom build. We list these in the audit

Our process

Short answer: We audit, export, build on Shopify, import, redirect and then switch the domain, with your WooCommerce store live until the switch.

  1. Audit and plugin map

We review your WooCommerce plugins, integrations, custom code and SEO risks, and map each one to a Shopify app or built-in feature. You get a written scope and fixed price.

  2. Export and clean

We export products, customers, orders and content, then remove duplicates, fix images and flag incomplete data before anything is imported.

  3. Build on Shopify

We build the theme, navigation, payments, tax or VAT setup and apps on a Shopify store while your WooCommerce store stays live.

  4. Import and verify

We import products first, then customers, then orders, and check the results against your WooCommerce exports. Staff order emails are switched off during the import.

  5. Redirects and SEO

We load the 301 redirect map, move titles and descriptions, and test the old URLs that matter most before launch.

  6. Go live and support

We switch the domain in a low-traffic window, test checkout live, and then watch Search Console and analytics for errors. Our projects include 30 days of post-launch support.

SEO and redirects

Short answer: Shopify's URLs differ from WooCommerce's, so every old URL that changes needs a 301 redirect, and the redirects must exist before the domain switches. No one can promise rankings stay the same, but this is how you protect them.

  • URL structure: Shopify uses fixed paths such as /products/ and /collections/, so WooCommerce paths such as /product/ change and need redirects
  • Redirect rules: Shopify's URL redirects can only start from URLs that no longer load a page, and some paths, including /products and /collections, cannot be redirected. Query strings and .html endings may not work as expected. See Shopify's URL redirect guide
  • Limit: most plans allow up to 100,000 URL redirects
  • Order of work: we upload the redirects before the domain transfer, as Shopify recommends in its migration guide
  • After launch: we submit the new sitemap, check Search Console for errors and fix gaps. Google can take from a few days to a few weeks to index a new site

Our Shopify SEO services cover the work after launch, and our migration playbook walks through the steps in more detail.

Setup by market

Short answer: Payments, tax and pay-later options differ by market, so we configure them for where you sell. Shopify Payments is available in the US, UK and UAE but not in India.

  • India: Razorpay, Cashfree or PayU for payments, GST-compliant invoicing, cash on delivery checks and carrier apps. Shopify Payments is not available in India
  • United States: Shopify Payments, sales tax setup and Shop Pay Installments where you are eligible. Shopify Tax lists the US. See our sales tax and nexus guide and our page for US D2C brands
  • United Kingdom: Shopify Payments with Klarna as a local method, VAT invoicing and pay-later options. See our VAT and MTD guide and our page for UK D2C brands
  • United Arab Emirates: Shopify Payments, 5% VAT rates and invoices set up with your accountant, and Arabic right-to-left support. See our page for UAE D2C brands

Country availability comes from Shopify's Shopify Payments country list. Our WooCommerce vs Shopify guide compares both platforms market by market.

Timeline and price

Short answer: We confirm timing and price in a written, fixed-price proposal within 2 working days. Our standard Shopify launch takes 2–3 weeks, and a migration depends on catalog size, order history and custom features.

  • What changes the scope: catalog size, years of order history, custom code, subscriptions and the number of plugins to replace
  • What you get: a fixed price in writing, a mapped redirect plan and 30 days of post-launch support
  • How to start: send your WooCommerce store URL for a free audit of plugins, page speed, SEO risks and custom code. Calls work in any timezone

Free migration audit. Share your WooCommerce store URL and we will review your plugins, SEO risks and custom code, then tell you honestly whether migrating makes sense. Written report within 2 working days. Request your free audit.

Is migration right for you?

Short answer: Migrate if you want managed hosting and less upkeep without a full-time developer. Stay on WooCommerce if a large WordPress content site drives your revenue and you have a developer.

Migrate when

Shopify fits better

  • You spend too much time on updates, plugin conflicts and hosting
  • You do not have a full-time developer
  • You plan to sell in more countries
  • You want payments, tax and shipping tools that work together

Stay when

WooCommerce fits better

  • A large WordPress content site drives most of your revenue
  • You have a developer or agency on retainer
  • Your catalog needs custom logic Shopify cannot support
  • You want full ownership of code and database

Frequently asked questions

How long does a WooCommerce to Shopify migration take?

It depends on your catalog size, order history and custom features. Our standard Shopify launch takes 2–3 weeks. For a migration we confirm the timeline in a written, fixed-price proposal, which we send within 2 working days of your request.

Will my SEO rankings be affected?

Rankings can move after any migration, and no agency can promise they will not. We reduce the risk by mapping every old URL to its new address with a 301 redirect before launch, carrying over page titles and descriptions, and submitting the new sitemap to Google Search Console. Google can take from a few days to a few weeks to reindex a new site.

Does my store go offline during the migration?

We build the Shopify store while your WooCommerce store stays live. The switch happens when you point your domain at Shopify, and we plan it for a low-traffic window. Shopify advises disconnecting the domain from your old platform first to avoid certificate errors, so we sequence that carefully.

What data can you migrate?

Products, variants, images, collections, customers, orders, pages, blog posts and SEO fields. Each moves in a different way, and the table above shows how. Anything that cannot move directly, such as passwords and reviews, is flagged in the audit.

Do customers need to reset their passwords?

Yes, because Shopify cannot import customer passwords from another store. Shopify's help center says to invite customers to create new passwords after the import. We recommend telling customers in advance and sending the invites soon after launch.

Can you migrate my order history?

Yes, usually through a migration app, because Shopify's own import does not cover orders. Shopify's guide names Matrixify, LitExtension and Ablestar for WooCommerce orders. Imported orders are historical records, so check how they appear in reports and with your accountant.

Which markets do you migrate stores for?

We migrate stores selling in India, the US, the UK and the UAE. Each market has its own setup: GST invoicing and local gateways in India, sales tax in the US, VAT and pay later in the UK, and 5% VAT and Arabic support in the UAE. The market section above lists what we configure.

What does a migration cost?

We quote a fixed price in writing, because cost depends on your store. Catalog size, order history, custom features, subscriptions and the number of plugins to replace all change the scope. Send your store URL for a free audit and a proposal within 2 working days.
