Create a Razorpay merchant account at razorpay.com. Click Sign Up, choose Business, enter business name, email, mobile. Submit KYC documents:

KYC documents required· PAN Card
· GSTIN certificate
· Cancelled cheque or bank statement
· Business proof (Shop Act / Udyam / Incorporation)
· Director / Proprietor identity

KYC review typically 24-48 hours. Restricted categories (jewelry, pharma) may take 3-5 days.

Tip: Submit a high-quality GSTIN certificate — this is the most common rejection reason. Use the original PDF, not a phone photo.

Get API Keys from Razorpay Dashboard

Once KYC approved, log into Razorpay Dashboard. Switch from Test mode to Live mode (top-right toggle).

Navigate toDashboard → Settings → API KeysGenerate Live Key → Copy Key ID + Key Secret → Save to password manager

You will get a Key ID (starts with rzp_live_) and a Key Secret. Store both securely — the Secret is shown only once.

Warning: Never paste Key Secret into emails or shared docs. Use a password manager. If exposed, regenerate immediately.

Open Shopify Payment Settings

In a new browser tab, log into your Shopify Admin.

Navigate toShopify Admin → Settings (bottom-left) → Payments

Scroll to Supported payment methods. Click See all other providers. Search for Razorpay.

Activate Razorpay on Shopify

Click Razorpay Secure from the list, then Activate Razorpay.

Enter credentialsKey ID: rzp_live_xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Key Secret: yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Click Activate. Razorpay is now your active payment provider. Disable Shopify Payments if it was on (only Razorpay should be active for India).

Pro tip: Set Razorpay as the only "Credit/Debit Card" provider. Disable PayU or other gateways unless you specifically need them as backup.

Configure Webhook in Razorpay

Back in Razorpay Dashboard, navigate to webhook config:

Navigate toSettings → Webhooks → Add New WebhookWebhook URL: https://[your-store].myshopify.com/services/payments/razorpay/webhook
Secret: (auto-generate)
Events: order.paid, payment.failed, payment.captured, refund.created

Save webhook. Razorpay will send real-time payment events to Shopify — critical for accurate order status and refund handling.

Test a Live Order

Open your live store in incognito. Add a low-value product to cart. Checkout. Test with each payment method:

✓ EMI (if enabled)

Verify each transaction shows in both: Shopify Orders with status "Paid", and Razorpay Payments with status "Captured". Refund a test order to confirm refund flow works.

Tip: Use a low-value SKU (INR 1 product) for testing. Refund yourself after to recover the fee.

Enable Payment Methods + COD Logic

In Razorpay Dashboard, navigate to:

ConfigureSettings → Payment MethodsEnable: UPI, Cards (Domestic + Intl), Netbanking, Wallets, EMI, BNPL

For COD with OTP, configure separately in Shopify: Settings → Payments → Add manual payment method → Cash on Delivery. Then install a COD OTP app for fraud protection.
